There are bragging rights, and then there are those that were lucky enough to witness Nirvana sweeping through Australia in 1992. If you’re Anthony Albanese, you’ve been dining out on it ever since.

The band’s headlining set at Big Day Out is legendary, as is their show at The Palace in Melbourne, captured at the time by triple j for Live at the Wireless. Now, that Melbourne show is getting an official release as part of the 30th-anniversary reissue for Nevermind.

It’s a big reissue, featuring a total of 94 audio and video tracks — 70 of them being previously unreleased. There are four complete live shows in the package: Live in Amsterdam, Netherlands (November 25, 1991), Live in Del Mar, California (December 28, 1991), Live in Tokyo, Japan (February 19, 1992), and Live in Melbourne, Australia (February 1, 1992).

Two live albums are also being chucked in for good measure: Live at the Paramount (Seattle, October 31, 1991) and Live at Reading (England’s Reading Festival, August 30, 1992) — the latter being probably the band’s most famous set of all time.

There’s a heap of different bundles and formats and whatever else — from the standard remastered album through to something called the Super Deluxe, which contains eight LPs and a 7″ vinyl. Truly a nerd’s dream: you can have a squiz over all the formats and prices here; the reissues will start rolling out on November 12.

You’ll notice the anniversary edition includes the original artwork — which is interesting, given the band are currently being sued by the child (now adult) on the cover, Spencer Elden. The lawsuit labelled the cover “commercial child pornography.
