Start Your New Year Off Right With Our Favourite New Dank Meme
The meme of 2018.
We’re less than two weeks out from the new year and Twitter has channelled its excitement into a truly dank new meme — timing your favourite songs so that they sync perfectly with the stroke of midnight on New Year’s Eve.
Users started off by just cracking a good joke about playing songs so that they coincided with the stroke of midnight:
If you play Daryl Braithwaite's 'The Horses' at 11:58:50pm on New Year's Eve that first "that's the way it's GONNA BE little darling, we'll be riding on the horses YEAH YEAH" will play right as the clock strikes midnight. Start off your new year right.

if you play "Africa" by Toto at exactly 11:58:30 on New Years eve, the first "I bless the rains down in Africa" will play at exactly midnight. Let’s start off the new year right

But it wasn’t left there. Some decided to have a go at their most hated songs:
If you don’t play "How You Remind Me" by Nickelback at exactly 11:59:08 on New Year’s Eve, then you won’t have to be listening to horrible music when 2018 begins. Start off your new year right.

if you play Gucci Gang at 11:57:36 PM on New Years Eve it’s perfect because the song will end right before midnight in 2017 and we can leave it the fuck there because that’s where it belongs.

And that’s it. Great. Just a pretty funny, normal joke. It’s not like this meme will get political…
If you play "Julia Gillard's misogyny speech" at 11:59:49pm on New Year's Eve the line "I will not be lectured about sexism and misogyny by this man" will play right as the clock strikes midnight. Start off your new year right.

if you play "white nationalist Richard Spencer gets punched in the face camera while doing interview" on December 31st at 11:59:27 the punch will play right as the clock strikes midnight. Start off your new year right.

If you play Bob Katter’s SSM marriage rant at 11:59:49pm on New Year's Eve the abrupt change from “1000 blossoms bloom” to “a person is torn to pieces by a crocodile” will play right as the clock strikes midnight. Start off your new year right.

Good old ALP Spicy Meme Stash even got involved:
If you play 'Bill Shorten's full campaign launch speech' at 11:24:40pm on New Year's Eve, Bill Shorten will yell 'Save Medicare' right as the clock strikes midnight. Start off your new year right.

At my count, it looks like it took just over 50 hours for the joke to turn into witty political commentary. Not bad.
And it may not even be the best political prank of the week.
