Rollercoasters, much like life itself, have their highs and lows. Over the weekend, one woman experienced the ultimate high, when she was hit in the face by a soaring bin chicken while riding a rollercoaster at Movie World on the Gold Coast.

“Paige just got hit by an ibis while riding front seat on the DC rival hypercoaster with uncle Mitch @movieworldaus,” Nicole Ormiston wrote on Facebook on Sunday.

“She had feathers on her and a beak scratch on her right shoulder. She’s completely shocked, a little bruised but ok 😮 not sure about the bird? How can you not buy that video 😂”.

I’d argue that Paige is, in fact, blessed — to collide with a soaring ibis is a rare and beautiful experience. To collide with one while riding the DC Rivals HyperCoaster at Movie World is also possibly the most Australian experience of all time. It’s almost worth wondering whether Movie World planned this to encourage people to buy its ride videos. Except that it couldn’t have, as the mighty ibis answers to no one but the skies (and overflowing local bins).

The incident also recalls the iconic moment in 1999 when supermodel Fabio was hit in the face by a goose while riding a different rollercoaster. Never forget.

Movie World told Junkee that “on Sunday, a guest riding the DC Rivals HyperCoaster at Warner Bros. Movie World had a rare and unusual interaction with an ibis. The guest did not report any injuries and our team was not alerted to an injured bird in the ride vicinity.”

Regrettably, the bin chicken involved in last weekend’s incident could not be reached for comment. We can only hope it is still soaring high, ready to bless unsuspecting rollercoaster patrons at a moment’s notice.
