Monopoly-Themed Indoor Park ‘Monopoly Dreams’ Is Landing In Melbourne This Summer
Attractions will include a 4D theatre, a chance to ride the Monopoly railway, and a Chance wheel offering up huge prizes.
A nostalgia-addled park called ‘Monopoly Dreams’ is scheduled to land in Melbourne later this year, so prepare to be whisked back to the innocence of childhood when life was about paying for your mortgage and being sent to jail.
The theme park will be the second of its kind — there’s one Monopoly Dreams in Hong Kong — but this one will reportedly be twice the size at 1650 square metres.
According to Time Out, after passing GO at the entrance, there are two areas for you to explore: Monopoly City and Monopoly Mansion. The two zones are very much Melbourne-inspired, and will include trams and street art, along with attractions that include a 4D theatre, a chance to ride the iconic Monopoly railway, and The Electric Company (where punters generate energy on a bike — very modern!).
The attractions allow you to win Monopoly money that you can spend at the park’s local diner or shop, but punters can also win grown-up prizes like airline vouchers by spinning the Chance wheel.
Look, it doesn’t really sound like Monopoly, to be fair. Where’s the monotony? Where’s the barely concealed resentment? Where’s the property ownership? This is almost sounds…. fun?
Entrepreneurs Derek Lo and Stephen Lo are reportedly behind the project of bringing Monopoly Dreams to Melbourne. “It’s our passion and mission to bring the good stuff from overseas to Australia,” Derek told Broadsheet, who also brought the Chinese store Miniso to Australian shores. “You don’t see anything like this in Australia,” Stephen added.
A whopping $20 million dollars is being devoted to setting up the indoor theme park, which will make use of all of that dead space in Melbourne Central and pop up at some point in late 2022. Ticket prices will start at $30.
