"It's not easy, butchering people."

Between Se7en and Zodiac, director David Fincher is no stranger to serial killer stories. But with Mindhunter he’s taking viewers back to the origin of the term.

Set to debut on Netflix in October, the ten-episode crime drama is about the early efforts of the FBI to interview and profile incarcerated serial killers in order to help them solve ongoing cases. Jonathan Groff and Holt McCallany star as FBI Agents Holden Ford and Bill Tench, characters inspired by real life investigators John E. Douglas and Robert K. Ressler. Ressler is sometimes credited with having coined the term “serial killer”.

Fincher directed three episodes, including the pilot, and serves as one of the show’s producers. It’s his second big collaboration with Netflix, after House of Cards. The streaming service, for its part, is billing the series as a “sinister investigative odyssey”.

Based on the new full-length trailer, not to mention the true crime wave we’ve all been riding lately, I reckon this show could be seriously big.
