The latest season of Charlie Brooker’s Black Mirror has finally landed, delivering a few more episodes designed to make us terrified that our phones are going to murder us.

Miley Cyrus appears among the dystopia this season, playing a hyper-commercialised pop star named Ashely O in the episode ‘Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too’. The episode has been getting mixed reviews, but at least it gifted us with a scene in which Cyrus tears through Nine Inch Nails’ ‘Head Like A Hole’. And, well, she fucking nails it.

The cover was approved by the man himself, Trent Reznor, who had to clear the sample for the show to use. He even re-wrote some of the lyrics to fit the script.

“Trent got it straight away,” Brooker told a press conference. “It was via email and he was really happy pretty quickly. He wanted to see the script and I got to re-write his lyrics in a chirpy way.

“I’m not the best lyricist in the world,” he admitted. “In the first song she’s singing: ‘I’m stoked on ambition and verve’ instead of ‘You’re gonna get what you deserve’.”

Black Mirror executive producer Annabel Jones added: “He thought it was very funny. He found the dark comedy very entertaining. There are lots of dark concepts in the film and we just enjoy that sort of childish subversion of them.”
