The year’s most anticipated fight — the exhibition bout between Floyd Mayweather and Logan Paul — finally happened today after months of build up.

First announced back in December 2020, and later postponed to June 6 this year, the eight-round exhibition match went ahead in Miami today and it sure was… something.

Despite most people thinking that Mayweather — an undefeated boxing legend with 50 wins under his belt — would knockout Paul in the first round, the visibly exhausted YouTuber impressively actually managed to hold his own and last all eight rounds.

“He’s better than I thought he was,” Mayweather said post-match. “He surprised me tonight. I had fun.”

On the other side of the ring Logan Paul couldn’t wipe the smile off his face, calling the fight “one of the greatest moments of my life”.

“Floyd Mayweather, it was an honour, an honour to share the ring with you,” said Paul.

However, Paul lasting through the entire unimpressive fight isn’t that surprising when you consider that Mayweather was definitely not putting much effort into the match at all. In fact, the latter half of the match was filled with the pair mostly hugging and wrestling instead of landing any actual punches.

While there was no offical ‘winner’ declared at the end of the fight as per exhibition rules, the stats showed that Mayweather was, as expected, the clear victor of the match. But at the end of the day both Paul and Mayweather were winners walking away with hefty payouts for their “efforts” in the ring.

It’s reported that Paul made a guaranteed $250,000 and 10 percent of pay-per-view sales, with a total expectation of $20 million. Getting a much bigger slice, Mayweather is allegedly taking home $10 million for just agreeing to fight and 50 percent of all pay-per-view sales with a total expectation of $100 million.

Really, the only losers here are those who forked out big bucks to watch a fight that didn’t really have much real boxing in it at all.
