A Government Minister Reckons Kids Should Learn To Build Mines Instead Of Fix Climate Change

"The best thing you'll learn about going to a protest is how to join the dole queue."

Something we can all agree on, and not just because it’s a truism, is that the children are our future. However, exactly what that future entails is something that is increasingly being debated. One government minister has now voiced his vision on what he’d like it to be: Young Australians all working in coal mines.

Matt Canavan, the Federal Resources Minister and one of the esteemed parliamentarians who forgot they were a citizen of another country for a bit, has come out firmly against today’s ongoing school strikes against climate change inaction. While doing so, he dropped a very interesting perspective on the future of the next generation of adult Aussie employees.

With thousands and thousands of school kids walking out of classrooms for unexpectedly massive rallies, Canavan told 2GB that kids should avoid protests and stick to their studies. Specifically in geology and mining, which he reckons “is one of the most remarkable science exploits in the world”.

“These are the type of things that excite young children,” he continued, obviously confusing school aged kids for CEOs of wealthy mining companies. Seriously though, show me one school kid “excited” about the continued hollowing out of our planet for profits and I’ll eat my “Stop Adani” hat.

Canavan wasn’t done decrying an entire age bracket of pissed off kids, going on to say how dumb he thinks protesting in general is. “Taking off school and protesting? You don’t learn anything from that.”

“The best thing you’ll learn about going to a protest is how to join the dole queue,” he bewilderingly continued. “Because that’s what your future life will look like, up in a line asking for a handout, not actually taking charge of your life and getting a real job.”

And on the day the phrase “cognitive dissonance” was redefined we can all say we looked on and watched. How is protesting about something that directly impacts the next 60 years of your existence not “taking charge” of your life? What’s wrong with this guy?

The man’s brain is obviously not like our human brains, as this hugely paradoxical thinking was also on display earlier this week when Canavan linked the bushfires currently devastating central Queensland with the just approved Adana coal mine. Linked together in a POSITIVE manner, mind you:

Yeah, this guy sucks.
