As part of the Obama’s virtual commencement ceremony on Sunday, the cast of Schitt’s Creek reunited over Zoom with one surprise guest: Mariah Carey.

With Schitt’s Creek ending this April, consider this a canon epilogue, as the Rose family and a couple of guests reunited in character, after the Obama’s personally reached out to wonderful speaker Moira Rose (Catharine O’Hara) to give a speech.

“We gave been given the essential task of sending our preceptors… some panegyrical words,” she says, while husband Johnny (Eugene Levy) attempts to simplify things a little.

Meanwhile, David (Dan Levy) tries his hardest to make a highly emotional moment, and Alexis is most concerned with looking hot. They’re soon joined by six more friends, including Patrick (Noah Reed), Twyla (Sarah Levy) and Stevie (Emily Hampshire), before performing a rendition of Carey’s ‘Hero’ — where they’re interrupted by the not-so elusive chanteuse, who joins in the harmony.

“Moira, darling, I hope you didn’t mind that I jumped in like that. You all sounded so good that I had to get in on it,” she said.

David, of course, freaks out. Carey is a big fixture of the show, as Patrick first told David he loved him by saying “you’re my Mariah Carey”. As a special treat, Carey sings ‘You’ll Always Be My Baby’ to David, after giving the 2020 graduates a cute message.

Watch the segment below. The Obama’s 2020 commencement stream featured a lot of celebrities, including Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, Lizzo, BTS, Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez and Condoleezza Rice.

All six seasons of Schitt’s Creek are available on Netflix.
