"As many of you know, over the last number of weeks, it has felt like there has been an assault on men collectively."

Conservative Australian YouTuber Sydney Watson has launched an event that we all sorely wanted: next month the March For Men will be hitting the streets of Melbourne to protest what Watson says is our “assault on men“.

More than 1,000 Facebook users have clicked “going” or “interested” to the Melbourne rally, planned for August 25.

And considering the politically-charged nature of the event, Watson has really used some wild language to describe her event.

“As many of you know, over the last number of weeks, it has felt like there has been an assault on men collectively,” Watson says in a YouTube video promoting the event.

She might have missed this: since the death of Eurydice Dixon 32 days ago, watchdog Destroy The Joint has counted nine more women who have died at the hands of a man.

“A lot of people are very distressed,” Watson continues. “They don’t feel as though they can support mens rights, masculinity, and men in general without being judged.”

The event’s Facebook description reads:

“”March For Men” is an important stepping stone in showing that our country cares about its fathers, brothers, sons, uncles, grandfathers.”

The event calls for donations, which will go towards organising the events. Any excess funds will be donated to a male-oriented charity.

You could donate to that, I guess. Or, you could donate to the Malala Fund instead — donations to the fund are used to educate young girls in developing countries.

And surprise, surprise: over 1,000 Facebook users have clicked “going” or “interested” on a counter protest event. The event is hosted by Campaign Against Racism and Fascism and the National Union of Students Women’s Department.

“Globally, Men’s Rights Activists (MRAs) have operated as a gateway drug for the alt-right,” their Facebook event reads. “Their campaigns seek to enforce rigid gender norms, sexist stereotypes and violence towards women.”

Melbourne has hosted a fair few of these protest clashes recently. At the Melbourne shows of two separate overseas right-wing commentators –Milo Yiannopoulos and Lauren Southern — protestors clashed, but were by-and-large separated by strong police presences.
