I don’t know about you, but I’ve been waiting for this moment for all my life, oh Lorde.

The superstar born Ella Yelich-O’Connor didn’t disappoint when she stopped by the BBC Live Lounge yesterday to perform two songs. After kicking off with her Melodrama lead single ‘Green Light’, Lorde took on Phil Collins’ iconic 1981 hit (and Cadbury ad) ‘In The Air Tonight’ — proving, once again, that she can pull off a damn good cover.

Speaking to host BBC host Clara Amfo before the show, Lorde admitted she hadn’t become a Collins fan until quite recently.

“I think I was aware of him as a kid but it wasn’t until I got older that I really realised how magical he was,” she said. “I went through this crazy journey of all the Genesis stuff and all his own records.

“He’s such a pioneer. His melodies and his drums – I’m just so inspired by him and he pushes me to be better. I haven’t [met him],” she added. “I think I would just melt into a little pool. He’d be like: ‘Oh no, there’s a little pool in front of me.’”

Watch Lorde do both songs below — and get your air drums ready.
