Lorde Covered Carly Rae Jepsen’s ‘Run Away With Me’ And 2018 Is Officially Amazing
We are not worthy.
It was only a matter of time before Lorde and Carly Rae Jepsen started covering each other’s music.
The World’s Two Greatest Living Popstars have been bouncing around the same musical circles for a while now, thanks to their mutual friendship and working relationship with pop production mastermind Jack Antonoff. Last September, they even joined each other on stage to help out Antonoff with some backing vocals at his MTV Unplugged Bleachers show.
But now, Lorde has finally sealed the deal. While on stage at an LGBTIQ charity benefit in New York last night, the NZ singer delivered an acoustic cover of Carly Rae Jepsen’s 2015 track ‘Run Away With Me’, accompanied by Antonoff on piano.
In doing so, she proved once and for all that even without the meme-worthy sax intro, the track still bangs.
The pair also covered Roy Orbison’s ‘You Got It’, and earlier in the show Antonoff paid tribute to the Cranberries’ late singer Dolores O’Riordan by playing one of the band’s earliest hits, ‘Dreams’.
Watch all three covers below — Carly, it’s your turn now.
Another brilliant cover from @jackantonoff and @lorde. This time it’s Roy Orbison’s “You Got It.” These two are amazing ❤️ #TACTalent pic.twitter.com/0nne10bg5L
