COVID-19 Won’t Stop Anne Hathaway From Stealing Diamonds In The Trailer For ‘Locked Down’
A revenge heist sure is one way to deal with lockdown anxiety.
What did you do in lockdown? Did you learn to knit? Crack the Zodiac Killer’s cypher? Binge some telly? Or did you make plans to heist a diamond with your ex to get revenge on your bosses?
HBO Max has debuted the first trailer for Locked Down, a new feature film starring Anne Hathaway and Chiwetel Ejiofor as a couple on the brink of separation, forced to continue living together due to a COVID-19 lockdown.
At the beginning of Locked Down‘s trailer, the film appears to be a story about a couple’s angst rising to the surface, romantic dramedy-style, while they’re stuck inside together. But the preview takes a surprising turn when Anne Hathaway resolves to steal a diamond worth 3-million pounds from the luxury department store Harrods.

With Chiwetel Ejiofor as her partner in crime, we are treated to a montage of the couple casing the store, while Nina Simone’s “Feeling Good” plays in the background. Directed by go-to sexy action film guy Doug Liman (Mr and Mrs Smith, The Bourne Identity) and written by Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders), Locked Down has the right crew behind it to make a more explorative film than an exploitive film about our modern pandemic world.
Personally, I feel that without a vaccine, with thousands still dying, it’s still too soon for COVID-19 flicks — but that’s just me. However, it is comforting to know that when the film was shot in the UK back in September and October, it was under strict COVID-19 safety protocols.

“It was scary taking my mask off every day, and so I really appreciated how committed the crew was to keeping their masks on — even when we were shooting in hot rooms and they were carrying heavy camera and lighting equipment they were always, always masked. Their professionalism helped keep me safe, and I was and am incredibly grateful to them,” Hathaway told People.
Locked Down also stars Stephen Merchant, Mindy Kaling, Lucy Boynton, Ben Stiller, and Oscar-winner Ben Kingsley. The film will be released on HBO Max in the USA on January 14. There’s no word on an Australian release just yet, but we will keep you posted.
