The Internet’s Just Discovered Multiple Water Bottles In ‘Little Women’, And It’s Melting Minds
"Game of Thrones: here's a coffee cup lmao Little Women: hold my hydroflask"
Greta Gerwig’s Little Women was released digitally mid-March (naturally), and as fans revisited the film, they honed in two previously unnoticed extras — a Hydro Flask and a water bottle. It, for reasons possibly related to being cooped up inside for weeks on end, has broken many brains.
At release, Little Women was celebrated as a fresh update to Louisa May Alcott’s 1868 novel, without losing the book’s spirit in the process.
While a period piece, the film is shot without stuffy convention, and the actors approach their roles with a contemporary air and movement. Acclaim, in particular, went towards Saoirse Ronan, Timothée Chalamet and breakout star Florence Pugh, and the film was nominated for Best Picture at the 2020 Oscars.
But now, the Hydro Flask and water bottle are stealing the spotlight, after TikTok user and Little Women superfan Madelyn Rancourt noticed them in her 1000th viewing of the film. For those playing at home, they make an appearance during a scene early in the film where Laurie (Chalamet) properly meets the March family. Aunt March would find this very unbecoming.
As her TikTok gained attention (and was written up by the likes of Teen Vogue and BuzzFeed), Little Women superfans essentially lost their minds, because what else is there to do?
Of course, a whole heap of comparisons were made to the coffee cup that featured in the final season of Game Of Thrones, which at the time was used to dunk on an underwhelming finale.

There’s also the repeated joke that the inclusion was intentional, a nod from an auteur about the eternal spirit of Louisa May Alcott’s novel, or that it shows that Jo March, if she existed in 2020, would be a VSCO girl.

Fans are kicking themselves for not noticing it earlier, but in a follow-up TikTok, Rancourt points out that Gerwig and the cast weren’t aware of it either.
She points towards a Vanity Fair video where Gerwig, Chalamet, Ronan and Laura Dern analyse the scene without noticing the bottles. By coincidence, they even paused on the very shot of the bottles.
