When news broke this morning confirming that a liberal party leadership spill is very much on, the team at Music Junkee wondered what the hell we could offer this shit-fire of a day.

Music heals wounds, but sometimes, you gotta let yourself feel it out first. We’ve whipped up a playlist that doubles as terrible slam poetry: we hope it captures the feelings of frustration and exhaustion caused by Peter Dutton’s leadership challenge.

And while the spill was unsuccessful, PM Malcolm Turnbull narrowly held on by just thirteen votes, meaning 42 percent of his party voted against him — in short, this isn’t a great vote of confidence in Turnbull.

With that in mind, it might be best to keep our playlist ready-to-go: unfortunately, it’s the seventh leadership spill in

Some centre incredulousness, like Contact Play’s ‘For Fuck’s Sake’ or Britney Spears’ ‘Ooops!…I Did It Again’. With blood in the water, it’s only right to blast the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s ‘Heads Will Roll’ and A Tribe Called Quest’s ‘The Killing Season’ nice and loud. Over all though, we’ve settled on a thread of irritation: it truly feels like our political landscape is ‘Torn’, and that our politicians are wilfully walking around on a ‘Broken Leg’. As Blondie puts it so well, ‘Just Go Away’ — and while ‘The Winner Takes It All’, ‘We All Lose’ in the end.

Finishing things up, Moby asks ‘Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad?’. And while we know who to blame, it still might be a good one to dance it out to.
