The Pixies, your favourite late 80s/early 90s indie rock noisemakers, made news a few weeks ago after losing a key member — original bassist, Kim Deal, who’s set to tour our shores in October with her other seminal band, The Breeders. Despite the loss, the band just released their first new song in nine years over the weekend. It’s called ‘Bagboy’, and it’s surprisingly good. Frontman Black Francis  chants some dramatically ugly things about bad breath and bad teeth, Joey Santiago’s guitar wails feverishly, and the music video features possibly the greatest image of all time — a kid lying in a bath of his own Froot Loops. (We’re gonna try this when we get home this evening.)

In somewhat related news, fellow ’90s noisemakers Nine Inch Nails have released the much-discussed video for their new single ‘Came Back Haunted’, directed by David Lynch. Since it involves both Lynch and NIN’s Trent Reznor, it obviously comes with an epilepsy trigger warning. Amidst all the nutso flashing is Reznor’s manic grin, beaming like that crazy monster dude from Lost Highway. The song will be on the band’s new album Hesitation Marks, out September 3, and will give you an instant headache.

The ’90s: a gift that keeps on giving, or something.
