Lena Dunham Is Making A New Show For HBO Whether You Want It Or Not
It's about "woman-on-woman" crime and also bears.
Lena Dunham’s BACK baby, and this time it’s with a new show, rather than another outbreak of cooked comments.
It’s been almost a year since the award winning and beloved Girls ended on HBO, and now series creators Lena Dunham and Jenni Konner are heading back to the network with a new show called Camping. The show, which has received an eight episode order from HBO, will be written and executive produced by Dunham and Konner and is based on a UK series of the same name.
In a major coup, they’ve secured none other than Jennifer Garner to star in Camping — making this her first major TV role since the noughties spy-drama Alias. In a statement, Konner and Dunham described Garner’s role of Kathryn Siddell-Bauers as “messy, tough and provocative and really really fun”.
“We love Jennifer’s restraint and comedic timing, and we can’t wait for the warmth and intelligence she’ll bring to our central character, Kathryn,” they said. “It’s truly a dream to have her first on our call sheet. Now we just have to write her some stunts.”
Here’s the description of the show: “Walt’s 45th birthday was supposed to be a delightful weekend back to nature, at least according to his obsessively organised and aggressively controlling wife Kathryn (Garner). But when the camping trip gathers Kathryn’s meek sister, holier than thou ex-best friend and a free-spirited tagalong in one place, it becomes a weekend of tested marriages and woman-on-woman crime that won’t soon be forgotten. Plus, bears.”
Of course, Lena Dunham is a fairly controversial figure, who is often better known for her divisive comments than her actual work, so plenty of people are rather dubious at the idea of a new Dunham vehicle on TV.
