You will work closely with the editorial team to sniff out stories before they break, beating our competitors to the punch every time, and be across the daily new cycle, especially the news and politics circuit, in order to craft compelling articles that intersect with Junkee’s audience.

  • Social media management & content generation
  • Supporting a wider editorial team with events and copywriting as required

  • Will have a keen sense of social justice, and a deep desire to bring important stories to light. You’ll be able to sniff out a great story and package it up in a way that’s interesting, intriguing, and digestible for Junkee’s large, diverse, youth-focused audience. You’ll be a fast learner who understands how content travels online, and you’ll be curious about Junkee’s audience and their interests and habits.
  • Where necessary, you’ll be able to jump on a breaking news story at a moment’s notice, pumping out fast, accurate copy on the day’s most important stories. But you’ll be also be able to dive deeper, interviewing interesting people, educating Junkee’s audience, and taking the time to tell important stories with sensitivity and accuracy.
  • You’ll also be an ideas generator and master storyteller who thrives on collaborating with the wider team to create truly unique content. You understand the digital publishing ecosystem and go above and beyond to deliver original ideas. You should be well versed in social media and how to get your content seen as widely as possible on a number of different platforms, so a proven track record of amplifying content digitally will be looked upon very favourably.

In addition we’d like you to have

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Arts, Journalism, Media and Communications or related field is preferred, but not essential
  • 1-3 years’ experience working in an editorial role, newsroom or similar, creating written content
  • Computer skills; proficiency in Premiere Pro, After Effects, Microsoft Office Suite, InDesign, Adobe Creative Cloud apps and/or Mac operations is a plus
  • A strong understanding of, and passion for, the news, politics, and youth communications space
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

And in return…

  • You will help deliver award-winning content you’re passionate about
  • You have the creativity to own your role and put your own stamp on it
  • You leverage the tools provided to be successful in your role
  • You make the most of sharing your ideas and contributing to growth
