If there’s one thing that you can definitely say about Todd Phillips’ Joker, maybe the most over-discussed film of the year, it’s that it is extremely serious.

Joker knows that comic book movies are sometimes beloved by children, and so spends its two-hour long running time spitting in the face of anything that could ever be considered fun. There’s no caped crusaders, or energised action setpieces, or joyous puns and ‘pow’ and ‘biff’ sound effects.

Instead, the film follows one man’s incredibly tortured descent into pure criminal distress. Cribbing the meanest parts of Martin Scorsese’s films from the ’70s — Taxi Driver and The King of Comedy in particular —  the movie is a long cavalcade of torture, and sadness, and anguish, culminating in even more torture, sadness, and anguish.

It’s all a bit of a bummer really, which is why it’s such a welcome joy that the film has been thoroughly memed.

First, Joker’s sadistic, tic-like laugh was dubbed over with some of the most distinctive chortles in Hollywood, most memorably the hoarse guffaw of Seth Rogan. Then, Joker getting hit by a car turned into an immensely popular exploitable, as denizens of Film Twitter mowed down the clown in a thousand different ways.

And now, in the mash-up to end all mash-ups, Joker has been jammed up against Australia’s premium comedic export, Kath and Kim.

Yep, some, uh, joker — @hayleytantau on Twitter, to be more precise — has decided that Phillips’ film would fit perfectly into the exploits of a pair of ‘Strayan legends. The result: scenes of Joaquin Phoenix looking vicious, brooding, and downright constipated, all set to the Kath and Kim theme song. Which, if you remember, ends with the lyric, “the joker is me”.

Tell me that’s not inspired.
