Got a unique Australian story to tell? The Jesse Cox Audio Fellowship is back for a third year in a row, giving mid-career storytellers the opportunity to further their careers in audio.

The fellowship is teaming up with Audiocraft once again to offer $15,000 in prize money for the winning applicant. The winner will also be offered a year-long professional development programme, mentorship and networking opportunities, professional introductions and other various aspects of support relevant to their targeted niche.

“It’s been incredibly rewarding to have been a part of and witness to the creative and professional growth of our incredible fellows Pat and Jay so far. As we kick off our third year of the Jesse Cox Audio Fellowship, we’re so excited to unearth our next fellow and support their development and craft,” said Jesse Cox Audio Fellowship founding member Que Minh Luu.

Last year’s winner Jay Ooi’s podcast on Asian Australian culture Shoes Off ended up winning the Smartest Podcast at the 2021 Australian Podcast Awards.

“Being the 2021 JCAF Fellow has given me the resources and the push to pursue bigger and more ambitious stories for my podcast Shoes Off and beyond. I would not have attempted to pursue such a big story without the support of fellowship. The JCAF team has been beyond supportive with suggestions, connections and care, and I would encourage anyone with ambitions for audio storytelling, especially for the types of stories we don’t get to hear, to apply for the 2022 fellowship,” said Ooi of the fellowship experience.

The fellowship is developed in memory of award-winning radio producer Jesse Cox, who developed unique storytelling content for the likes of FBi Radio, ABC RN and Audible, showcasing Australian perspectives, before his tragic passing in 2017. In his honour, the fellowship aims to further build and nurture the Australian audio community he was so passionate about.

Applications will be reviewed by Audiocraft’s Jessica Bineth, ABC’s Sophie Townsend and Netflix ANZ’s Que Minh Luu. Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed by Bineth, Monique Keller of Fremantle Australia and last year’s winner Jay Ooi.

Applications are now open at jcaf.org.au.
