If you’re of a certain age, the whining, yelping call of ‘CALIFORNIAAAAAAAA’ will elicit a very strong emotional response.

As the theme song for the iconic teen show The O.C., it encapsulated the messy, hormone-raging angst of the Orange County crew. So really, it was only a matter of time until someone was bold enough to take on the track for triple j’s Like A Version. Enter Japanese Wallpaper.

The Melbourne artist took on the Phantom Planet song this morning for his turn in the ABC studio’s this morning, transporting us back to the sad, sun-bleached shores of LA. Watch it below.

He also dropped his new single ‘Imaginary Friends’, taken from his upcoming debut full-length Glow, which lands October 18.
