The Next Bond Movie Has Reportedly Cast Lashana Lynch As The New 007
Huge if true.
After years of speculation about who will be the next 007, a new report suggests the role has gone to British actress Lashana Lynch. And I probably don’t need to explain why that would be a big deal if it’s true.
To clarify, the news isn’t that Lynch, who we last saw in Captain Marvel, will be playing James Bond in the upcoming sequel, currently known as Bond 25. No, that’ll still be Daniel Craig. But according to The Daily Mail (so take it with a grain of salt), Bond is retired at the beginning of the film, and his famous codename has been passed on to Lynch.

According to a “movie insider” quoted by the British tabloid, “there is a pivotal scene at the start of the film where M says ‘come in 007’, and in walks Lashana”.
“It’s a popcorn-dropping moment. Bond is still Bond but he’s been replaced as 007 by this stunning woman.”
The idea reportedly came from Fleabag and Killing Eve writer Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who was brought on to polish the script for Bond 25, which has had a rocky time in production.
There have been calls to cast a black actor or a woman as James Bond when Craig finally retires, with many fans believing Idris Elba would be perfect in the role. This, in turn, has let to a lot of complaining from sad little troglodytes on the internet, because that’s how the internet works.
Whether Lynch’s stint as 007 is just lip service, or a bigger sign of where the franchise is headed, remains to be seen. Bond 25 hits cinemas in 2020.
