Please Enjoy This Clip Of Two Teenagers Listening To ‘In The Air Tonight’ For The First Time
It's safe to say the song blows their minds.
There are few moments in music more iconic than the drum roll that breaks ‘In The Air Tonight’ in two.
It’s just so eerie; so intense. It takes a soulful and heartfelt banger about love and obsession to the next level, curdling romance into something altogether sexier; more disturbing.
Of course, it’s also something like a meme. The song has been totally saturated throughout our culture, so much so that it’s hard to imagine the person who puts on ‘In The Air Tonight’ for the first time and isn’t expecting that glorious drum fill.
Which might explain why this video of two teenagers hearing Phil Collins’ magnum opus for the very first time has gone quite so viral.
I mean, just watch it first, then we’ll discuss:

The brothers operated a YouTube channel called TwinsthenewTrend. On it, they react to classic songs for the first time. There’s videos of them losing their minds to ‘Jolene’ by Dolly Parton, and ‘Dream On’ by Aerosmith. But the ‘In The Air Tonight’ video might be their masterpiece, precisely because it’s so thick with anticipation. We all know what’s coming, but the brothers don’t, giving the whole thing a wonderful sense of suspsense.
The whole video is just as good, too. Watch it in full here, and experience the secondhand joy of two people having their minds blown by transcendent art:
