The rapper Illy has opened up about his gruelling two year experience with a cyber-stalker in a lengthy Facebook post.

The post opens with an admission that as a public figure, Illy expects a certain level of “trolling.” However, what he endured went far beyond the usual behaviour of trolls — not only was he directly targeted, but so was his partner, record label, “family & friends” and a range of businesses associated with all parties.

“Other than the usual shit, they included lies, publishing addresses, false noise complaints to police, and attempts to harm our careers and personal relationships.” Illy wrote.

After dealing with the police force about the matter for a “year”, Illy writes that the police visited the stalker, and made them aware that their identity was known.

“I suspect the person is reading this – you’re welcome for that,” Illy writes. “We figured as it stands, the humiliation of knowing that we know who you are, and how much time and effort you put in (seriously, it’d be impressive if it wasn’t so, so embarrassing), was punishment enough.

“Not responding, especially when it was hurting those closest to me, has been difficult,” Illy continues in the post. “It started affecting my day to day mentality, and that of those around me. Dealing with the damage to self-worth, purpose, and career covid caused, combined with seeing myself and people I care about subjected to this poison, has been a lot.”

In concluding, Illy addresses the stalker directly, as well as other potential fixated individuals. “Fuck with peoples family in real life, with your real identity, and see how it goes for you,” he writes. “Better yet, just do something constructive with your life, you’ll feel better.
