For the last few months, the internet has been abuzz with excitement over I May Destroy You, the new series from Michaela Coel. At least, all of the parts of the internet that don’t involve Australia.

As per usual, we’ve been left out of a timely I May Destroy You release. Both the Brits and the Yanks have had the acclaimed masterpiece for ages, and have been spending a lot of time online talking about quite how good it is. All while us Aussies have had to sit back and look on, waiting our turn.

Well, the good news is, our turn is finally here. I May Destroy You has hit Binge, the new Australian streaming service. Like, right now. Yep, just like that, with nothing in the way of forward-warning, the show is available to watch for all Binge subscribers.

For those not in the know, I May Destroy You follows a young victim of sexual assault. Putting her life back together after the incident, Arabella (played by Coel herself), navigates recovery with the help of her friends Terry and Kwame, while trying to keep her career as a novelist afloat.

New York Times reviewer Mike Hale has called the show “touching and quietly hilarious” while saying that it “rarely hits a false note”. It’s widely being discussed as one of the year’s true masterpieces, and a defining work of our era.

Which means you’d be strongly advised to take time out of your evening tonight, and get right on it.
