UPDATE, October 30: The hallowed day has arrived. Tonight, Shannon Noll plays Goulburn’s Astor Hotel. What beauty he shall weave.

Virality is an odd thing. It can’t be manufactured, it can’t be forced, and sometimes it strikes in the oddest places. Back in August, it was Shannon Noll’s chance to Shine.

Yes, the Shannon Noll. The same one you’re thinking of. The runner-up of the first-ever season of Australian Idol in 2003. The only Aussie male in the entirety of Australian chart history to release ten consecutive singles that hit the top ten. (Yeah, who knew? We all feel a little weird now.) That Shannon Noll.

The same week that gifted us another onion video from our steely-stomached former PM, a disturbingly hygienic raccoon, and a Snoop Dogg parody video slamming the tampon tax, the strange and unpredictable virality gods reached down from their heavenly plane and decided to gift Shaz some much-needed internet love.

It all went down on the Facebook event page for one of Nollsy’s gigs — he’s set to play at Goulburn’s Astor Hotel on October 30, and for whatever reason, it’s become the focal point of delicious memes for miles.

It was like the entirety of Australia’s internet creativity was being focused on this one event.

We even got this little reminder of what fashion was like back … well, back at some point. We assume. Maybe it’s best to forget some things.

Nollsy’s trademark soul patch was up for some serious discussion throughout the page, with many people enquiring about its whereabouts. Let’s be honest, if there’s one musical comeback we need this year, it’s from Nollsy’s soul patch.

Unfortunately, at some point – in what is perhaps one of the saddest moments in Australian music since Taylor Swift was denied her rightful place in the Triple J Hottest 100 – someone in charge of the event began hiding and removing posts. All that gold lost, bar a few screenshots we managed to salvage. The number of attendees is now hidden (but don’t let that stop you from joining the event, please), and all of the memes seem to be gone. Some are accessible, but only via permalink.

It was the internet at its absolute best, toiling away in this little corner of beauty and wonder. It’s just a shame it all had to end so soon. What about us, Nollsy?
