Here’s Who’s Predicted To Win The Hottest 100, Now Voting Has Closed
Warning: potential spoilers ahead.
Well, it’s done: voting for the 2019 Hottest 100 has officially closed.
According to triple j, this year has been one of the biggest (potentially the biggest) countdowns ever: last week the station revealed that 47,000 votes were being counted per day, with 1.8 million already in the bag — which amounts to a 31 percent increase from the year before. They also revealed it was one of the closest races in history, with just 53 votes separating #3 and #4 at one point.
We now have to wait five long, long days until the full Hottest 100 is revealed on Saturday, but we do already have a fairly strong idea of how it will look. Vote aggregator 100 Warm Tunas has been up to its usual tricks once again this year, trawling the internet to collate everyone’s votes.
It’s done this for the past few years with alarming accuracy, correctly predicting the winner in 2017 and 2018 — it mixed up the top two in 2016, but still pretty much nailed the rest of the top ten.
In 2019’s Warm Tunas poll, it looks like Denzel Curry’s ‘Bulls On Parade’ ‘Like A Version’ has landed at #1, with Billie Eilish’s ‘bad guy’ at #2. The rest of the top five is completed by Mallrat’s ‘Charlie’, G Flip’s ‘Drink Too Much’, and Thelma Plum’s ‘Better In Blak’.
Tones And I’s ‘Dance Monkey’, which was widely considered the favourite, is sitting pretty at #7, just before Flume and Vera Blue’s ‘Rushing Back’.
If this predicted order holds strong for the countdown, it means a few things: it will be the first time a ‘Like A Version’ has taken out the #1 spot (and will be only the second time a person of colour has done so), and it would break the record for the most solo female acts in the top ten.
Have a look at the Warm Tunas ranking below, and tune into triple j from midday (AEDT) this Saturday to hear it all go down.
