This year’s Hottest 100 is set to be one of the tightest races on record, with just a “handful of votes” separating some tracks in the top ten.

Last week, triple j revealed that only a few hundred votes made up the difference between #1 and #2, likewise between #4 and #5. They’ve now announced that only 53 votes are currently separating #3 and #4, with the #1 track steadily pulling away from #2.

We already have a pretty good idea of what those tracks are: vote aggregator 100 Warm Tunas is once again trawling the internet to collate everyone’s votes, which it has done for the past few years with pretty alarming accuracy.

At the time of writing, Denzel Curry’s ‘Bulls On Parade’ Like A Version cover is in the top spot on the site, followed by Billie Eilish’s ‘bad guy’, G Flip’s ‘Drink Too Much’, Mallrat’s ‘Charlie’, and Thelma Plum’s ‘Better In Blak’.

If Curry takes out #1, it’ll be the first time a Like A Version has ever landed in the top spot, and only the second time a LAV has ever placed in the top ten — DMA’s Cher cover ‘Believe’ came in at #6 in 2016. It’ll also be the second time a person of colour has been crowned the winner, the first being Kendrick Lamar with ‘HUMBLE.’ in 2017.

According to triple j, the bottom few songs in the countdown are also constantly moving around, meaning your vote could determine whether your fave even gets in the poll. Around 47,000 votes are being counted per day, with 1.8 million already been cast.

Voting for the Hottest 100 closes January 20, and the countdown will be broadcast on January 25.
