Hockey Dad Pulled Off Stage Mid-Show After COVID Restrictions Unexpectedly Came Into Effect
"We were then told we had to leave the venue immediately and isolate. We are absolutely gutted and are lost for words.”

Coronavirus restrictions move fast. One morning, numbers seem — relatively speaking — under control. By that evening, the spread is so wide that a lockdown becomes inevitable. And like that, we’re back in our houses again for the foreseeable future.
Indeed, these restrictions moved so quickly over the weekend that they actually disrupted a Queensland gig by two-piece rockers Hockey Dad, who were forced to evacuate before the show was even over.
“We had just finished our set and were about to walk back on stage for an encore,” the band explained in an Instagram post. “We were then told we had to leave the venue immediately and isolate. We are absolutely gutted and are lost for words.”

Elsewhere in the update, the band describe the disruption as the “heaviest thing” they have ever experienced. They also explain that their team are working on “a solution to fix all this”, though were not specific about what such a solution might yet resemble.
As MusicFeeds notes, the band have more gigs scheduled — the next one is in August. But if the era in which we live has taught us anything, it’s that the best laid plans of mice and men aft gang awry.
UPDATE: Hockey Dad have now provided a follow-up statement claiming that the incident was “hard for them to comprehend.”
“”As the crowd started yelling for us to jump back on for an encore, we got the tap on the shoulder and were escorted away from the stage to receive the bad news,” the band said, as reported by The Music. Everything was going so well up until that point. We did everything by the book. And it all just fell apart so quickly”
The band are currently in a two-week quarantine period.
