4ESydney is in its fifth year, and to celebrate, it’s throwing a free, female-fronted hip-hop festival this Saturday.

Dedicated to ‘socially conscious’ hip-hop, the festival lands at the end of a week of conferences and artist-led workshops which tackle some of the genre’s biggest issues, including cultural appropriation, sexism and whether we can separate art from the artist.

The festival is headlined by Persian-New Zealand rapper Chaii alongside US acts Big Piph, Bgrl Macca, Chazmere and Dj Kuttin Kandi, and will feature Australian rising acts like Bigsound favourite imbi the girl, Dobby, Zeadala, Clarissa Mei, Mirrah and many more.

There’s also a heap of dance crews, artists and DJs taking to the stage during the day, as well as a massive wall being spray-painted live by more than 20 graffiti artists.

4ESydney Festival kicks off this Saturday 6 April at 1pm at Paul Keating Park — tickets are free, but you’ll need to sign up for them online.
