The political instability and general calamity induced by the Liberal leadership spill this week has probably left you a little bewildered. While it was happening, we were all revelling in the increasingly absurd updates and the world were expressing their serious concern on our behalf. Now, in its wake, we’re left hopelessly guessing at the fate of our nation under a new Prime Minister and his yet-to-be-announced ministry.

But, despite our nation’s best journalists keeping you up to date with tireless reportage, analysis and commentary, it turns out the whole thing can be best summed up by a slapstick 70-second recap from some Taiwanese animators. You’re welcome, in advance.

The company which produced the recently released clip are well-known for work of this standard. You probably first saw their stuff in 2009 when they animated Tiger Woods’ affair and it’s only gotten better from there. They now recap major news with 50-60 animations per day. As NPR pointed out in a big profile last year, they’re often denied airtime in Taipei because of their violent content but have found a cult fan base from all around the world.

In full appreciation of their incredible art form, here are some very important highlights to take note of on your second, third, and umpteenth viewing of the new clip:

The bit where Tony Abbott is on a tricycle because of course he is.

The bit where our government’s high-powered political machinations are perfectly reduced to a Three Stooges gag.

The bit where Malcolm is literally Scrooge McDuck.

The bit where Julie Bishop is the Pope?

The bit where either Joe Hockey or Scott Buchholz is lurking, ominously, on the wing.

The bit where you scored a cameo.

In case you were wondering: yes, they were also on the scene during our last major leadership trouble. Their last venture into Australian politics featured Kevin Rudd being beaten up by a cloud, mining corporations dancing in cash, and Tone standing triumphant on a beach, gleefully shooting at asylum seekers while kissing a crucifix. I can’t recommend it highly enough.

How the mighty have fallen.
