Grimes And Elon Musk Have Revealed Their New Baby’s Name And It’s Exactly What You Expect
The couple secretly had a baby via surrogate in December last year.
Grimes has revealed that she and tech billionaire Elon Musk have welcomed a second child to their family after a reporter heard sounds of a baby crying during an interview with Vanity Fair.
The story published in Vanity Fair’s cover issue is a really wild ride. Reporter Devin Gordon was mid-interview with the musician when unmistakable baby sounds started emanating from an adjacent room.
“And I can tell by the frozen look on my host’s face that she heard it too. So I brace myself to ask the strangest question of my career: Do you have another baby in your life, Grimes?” wrote Gordon in Vanity Fair.
The singer eventually revealed that the couple had welcomed a baby girl, named Exa Dark Sideræl Musk and nicknamed ‘Y’, into their family via surrogacy in December. The baby marks the second child between Musk and Grimes, with their first child X Æ A-12 being born back in 2020.
While the article states that the couple were back together, Grimes took to Twitter after publication to announce that the couple had since split. “Me and E have broken up *again* since the writing of this article haha, but he’s my best friend and the love of my life” the singer wrote on Twitter.
Grimes also delves into some of the themes of her upcoming Book One, including some pretty dodgy inspiration from the artist’s relationship with Musk.
“We keep having this conversation where E’s like, ‘Are you real? Or are we living in my memory, and you’re like a synthesized companion that was created to be my companion here? The degree to which I feel engineered to have been this, like, perfect companion is crazy.”

Grimes has also doubled down on comments she made on Instagram last year about her plans to die on the planet Mars, re-iterating in the Vanity Fair article that “I’d rather die trying to do something impossible and maybe failing, than just keep releasing cute pop songs”
