Teen Climate Activist Greta Thunberg Says Politicians Can Keep Their Selfies; She Wants Change

Greta Thunberg, a 16-year-old climate activist from Sweden, poses a real problem for Boomers and politicians.

After all, if there’s one thing both demographics love, it’s denigrating the younger generations as mere milleniall whingers who are all talk and no action, as though everyone under the age of 30 is content to sit on their devices, cook their brains, and do absolutely nothing to solve the environmental collapse that Boomers themselves caused.

Thunberg is the example that devastates that cliche. Since August of 2018, the young woman has been taking the fight for her generation’s future to the streets. The school strike for climate, an initiative that she spearheaded and has served as the informal figurehead for, began with a daily and solitary protest she conducted outside the parliament in Sweden. Since those modest beginnings, the protest movement has become an international force.

She’s delivered speeches at the U.N., and has rallied around the globe in order to draw attention to the radical change needed to halt the worst effects of climate change. Thunberg has even been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for her efforts.

Now, she’s hit out against those politicians who have sought to praise her without doing the hard work of making a real change themselves.

As SBS has reported, while protesting in Rome, Thunberg delivered a series of searing remarks.

“We have not taken to the streets for [politicians] to take selfies with us, and tell us that they really, really admire what we do,” Thunberg said.

“We children are not sacrificing our education and our childhood for the adults and politicians to tell us what they consider is politically possible in the society they have created,” she continued.

The remarks come hot on the heels of an emotional address Thunberg delivered to the EU.

“I want you to act as if the house is on fire,” Thunberg said then.
