Mining magnate and ex-Netball Australia sponsor Gina Rinehart has been spotted in the crowd at Donald Trump’s presidential announcement.

In case you missed it, former President and a major threat to democracy as we know it Donald Trump announced his intention to run for the country’s top job again in 2024 in a press conference from his Mar-a-Lago estate yesterday.

“This will not be my campaign, this will be our campaign, together,” Trump said in his address.

“Because the only force strong enough to defeat the massive corruption we are up against is you, the American people.”

But while you probably didn’t miss the announcement itself, you may have missed the fact that Australian minerals giant Ms Gina Rinehart was also in attendance, captured in a photograph to be sitting just behind Trump’s own family.

While Trump’s own daughter Ivanka — who played no small part in the girl-bossification of the Trump establishment — was quick to distance herself from Don’s second presidential run, his son Eric was front and centre for the announcement.

But if pretend you’re playing Where’s Wally with mining magnates, you can also see what appears to be Rinehart sitting directly behind Eric and his wife.

Rinehart’s appearance isn’t all that surprising considering she once urged the Australian government to follow in the footsteps of the Trump administration, positing in a statement that “Donald Trump shows us the way to succeed”.

“People close to the president-elect and his campaign advised that their countrymen told them they wanted, firstly, less government tape, secondly less taxation, and for the USA to grow and be economically strong again, and provide more sustainable jobs. And how exciting, this is exactly what the president-elect, and his team, are advising they want to deliver for America and its struggling economy,’’ she said in 2016, shortly after Trump’s election.

“In addition to wanting to deliver secure borders, a safer country and less government debt. Trump’s team members advised that the president-elect wants to cut federal government tape by 50 per cent in his first months of office, and that he wants to cut company tax to 15 per cent. What a kickstart to the American economy that will provide!’’

During Trump’s time in office, Rinehart also visited and dined with the former President at a state dinner hosted at the White House.
