Esteemed DJ and producer Getter has announced that he is cutting his most recent tour short due to critical, unsupportive crowds.

Getter (real name Tanner Petulla) is best known for his song ‘Uppercuts’ (under his alias Terror Reid) and has spent the last seven years developing his reputation as a creative powerhouse in the bass and dubstep scene.

However, with Visceral, his latest album, Getter made a conscious decision to move away from his roots. Free from the hardcore stylings that have defined his career to date, Visceral was a longer, stranger work of autobiography that took two years to put together.

Initial receptions to Visceral online were largely positive, with critics calling it a “masterpiece” and the record that “unlocks Getter’s true potential“.

However, crowds on the Visceral tour have not been so positive. The tour has been marked by combative and critical audiences — some have booed Getter; others have thrown things at him.

As a result of his difficulty with the crowds, halfway through the tour, the DJ claimed that it was set to be his last. He also expressed his thanks to those trying to help him get through the dates, but admitted that the “hate just won’t stop” and that he “didn’t get it.”

Shortly afterwards, Getter released a statement cancelling the rest of the tour dates.

The statement, shared on Twitter, blames punters’ desire for “cookie-cutter bullshit” as the reason for Visceral‘s bad reputation on the road. In it, Getter argues that criticism is healthy, but that the “constant hate and disgusting attitudes” have broken his will to continue touring.

Since the statement was released, fans have rallied around the musician and performer, apologising for the way that he has been treated and encouraging him to defy the haters, and keep living his creative truth.

Here’s hoping that he’s listening.
