Gerard Way Just Gave Alex Lahey A Shout-Out For That Awesome My Chem Cover
"This made my morning!"
Last week, Alex Lahey dropped by the triple j studios for her latest crack at Like A Version.
Having took on Natalie Imbruglia’s ‘Torn’ for her first time in the LAV room, this time around she decided to duck back to 2006 and tackle My Chemical Romance’s emo classic, ‘Welcome To The Black Parade’. Lahey — with a little help from her mate G Flip — knocked it out of the park, and the triple j text line went, predictably, bananas.
It wasn’t just the triple j audience losing their minds either: the cover caught the attention of My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way, who posted a touching note to Lahey on his Instagram earlier today.
“This made my morning!” He wrote. “Alex Lahey and her band covering ‘Welcome To The Black Parade’…What I appreciate about Alex and Co’s ‘Parade’ cover is how much they really went for it, and with all of the additional instruments (those cymbals!) and everyone singing and just smiling and having a good time. Really amazing performance.”
He went on to write that he’d checked out Lahey’s first album I Love You Like A Brother after a friend recommended it, and he loved it.
“It’s a really nice feeling to see such fantastic musicians appreciating our work,” he finished. Read his full post below.
Needless to say, Lahey appreciated the shout out:
