Gang of Youths’ 2017 track ‘The Deepest Sighs, The Frankest Shadows’ is a swelling epic of a song: a slow build of ringing guitars and drums that rumble and collide under Dave Le’aupepe’s earnest vocals.
To hear it blasted out from the biggest stages is powerful — as is, it turns out, hearing it stripped back to its bare bones. Last night, Michael May from Sydney’s Boo Seeka posted his acoustic version of the track on socials, a common request, he noted, from fans.
The clip is short, but affecting, despite the fact that May appears almost in complete darkness. Maybe the darkness was part of the mood…who knows? Maybe he doesn’t own a lamp? Who cares?
