The ‘Game Of Thrones’ Cast Has Hit Back At The Idiots Who Want To Remake Season 8
"If people feel let down by it, I don’t give a fuck."
Game of Thrones may be over, but the bitching from fans has only just begun. Viewers of the HBO fantasy have been fiercely divided over the show’s eighth and final season, and boy they have not been shy about saying so. In fact, the most vocal (some might say whiny) fans have gone so far as to sign a petition calling for season eight to be remade “with competent writers”.
The appeal has so far attracted more than 1.4 million signatures and has prompted a response from a number of Game of Thrones cast members, including Sophie Turner, aka Sansa Stark, and Isaac Hempstead Wright, aka Bran.
Speaking to The New York Times, Turner said she wasn’t surprised by the strong reaction from fans, but thought the petition was “disrespectful to the crew, and the writers, and the filmmakers who have worked tirelessly over 10 years, and for 11 months shooting the last season”.
“So many people worked so, so hard on it, and for people to just rubbish it because it’s not what they want to see is just disrespectful,” she said.
Wright, meanwhile, told The Hollywood Reporter that the petition was “absurd”
“I can’t even fathom it,” he said. “It’s ridiculous that people think they can just demand a different ending because they don’t like it. I have stupidly taken it quite personally, which obviously I shouldn’t. In my opinion, it’s a great ending.”
Still, neither of them went quite as far as Kit Harington did back in April. Asked by Esquire about critical expectations ahead of the season premiere, the actor said he was “quite defiant” about the show.
“I don’t mean to sound mean about critics here,” he said, “but whatever critic spends half an hour writing about this season and makes their judgement on it, in my head they can go fuck themselves. ‘Cause I know how much work was put into this. I know how much people cared about this. I know how much pressure people put on themselves and I know how many sleepless nights working or otherwise people had on this show. Because they cared about it so much.”
“If people feel let down by it, I don’t give a fuck,” he added. “No one’s [a] bigger fans of the show than we are.”
So there you have it. In the words of Jon Snow, go fuck yourself.
