The FBI have found a body believed to be missing American travel influencer Gabby Petito. Crews had been searching a national park in Wyoming after she disappeared and was reported missing by her family on September 11.

Concerns for her welfare were first sparked when her fiancé Brian Laundrie came back from a planned trip together alone. Petito, originally from New York, had been travelling with Laundrie for the last two years.

On their latest journey, the couple were going cross-country from Long Island to Oregon in a converted camper van, sharing their adventures on Instagram and YouTube. The pair set off on their four month road trip in July, but come September, Laundrie had returned back to their home in Florida with the van solo.

Laundrie had reportedly refused to cooperate with investigators, or Petito’s family, not sharing the last time he saw his partner or providing any other answers. He had been declared a “person of interest” in Petito’s disappearance  but not charged, before he disappeared himself.  His family told police they haven’t seen him since last Tuesday and reported him missing on Friday, September 17.

In August, Utah police responded to a suspected domestic violence incident between Laundrie and Petito. Bodycam footage shows Petito expressing concern about her mental health, and telling officers the couple had been arguing more than usual, while the report described her as “crying uncontrollably”.

Federal agents on Sunday said that they had discovered “human remains consistent with the description” of Petito, and a spokesperson extended their condolences to her family.

“As every parent can imagine, this is an incredibly difficult time for the family and friends. Our thoughts and prayers are with them. We ask that you all respect [their] privacy as they mourn the loss of their daughter.

“The cause of death has not been determined.”
