I regret to inform you that Freya the walrus has been sadly euthanised after crowds continued to disturb her rest in Oslo.

Freya — the girlboss to end all girlbosses — has dominated headlines in recent weeks after accidentally sinking multiple boats with all 600kg of her divine feminine energy. But unfortunately, her huge popularity became her ultimate downfall after locals refused to leave her alone — despite multiple warnings from authorities.

Ultimately, authorities have had to make the tragic decision to euthanise Freya — citing threat to human safety as the reason for the call.

“The decision to euthanise was taken on the basis of a global evaluation of the persistent threat to human security,” the head of Norway’s fisheries directorate, Frank Bakke-Jensen, said in a statement. “We carefully examined all the possible solutions. We concluded that we could not guarantee the wellbeing of the animal by any of the means available.”

Bakke-Jensen noted that other options, including relocating Freya, were considered but this wasn’t a possibility due to her massive size and the danger the animal poses to humans.

“We have sympathies for the fact that the decision can cause a reaction from the public, but I am firm that this was the right call,” said Bakke-Jensen. “We have great regard for animal welfare, but human life and safety must take precedence.”

Named after the Norse goddess of love and beauty, Freya embodied just that. She was living out her best hot girl summer, sleeping 20 hours per day, sinking the boats of the rich, feasting on birds and generally just living her best life in the fjords of Norway’s capital.

While Freya may have left this mortal world, her memory will live on forever

Following the news of Freya’s untimely passing, social media users have been quick to pay tribute to the walrus that won our hearts and sank some boats. She truly embodied the “eat the rich” mentality and for that, we have nothing but respect.
