Foo Fighters Covered Metallica With A 10-Year-Old Kid And It Was Wholesome As Hell
The kids are alright.
Foo Fighters may have started as Dave Grohl’s solo project, but he’s done everything to ensure that it’s long since become a communal affair.
When Pat Smear wanted to come back to the band after a 10-year absence, they simply became a five-piece band. When touring keyboardist Rami Jaffee just started turning up in photoshoots, the band expanded again to become a sextet. They’re now touring with backing vocalists, meaning there’s up to nine people on stage at any given time.
Basically, if you want in on being a Foo Fighter, Dave Grohl’s got you. John Travolta? Done. Random dude in KISS make up? Let’s do it. A 10-year-old kid? Guess what buddy, you’re in the band.
While it’s not entirely clear how young Collier ended up on-stage for the band’s encore during a huge show at the Sprint Center in Kansas City (where our own Gang of Youths were opening), the ever-welcoming Grohl was entirely open to whatever his new bandmate wanted to play.
After mentioning he knows “a lot of Metallica songs,” a roadie presented Collier with Grohl’s own guitar (which is roughly twice his size). The pint-sized axeman tore right into ‘Enter Sandman’, and Grohl did his best to remember all the words on the spot while drummer Taylor Hawkins and bassist Nate Mendel kept the groove.
You’ve got to admire the absolute chutzpah of this child while you watch this video, as soon enough he starts marching around the stage like he owns it. If that wasn’t enough, Metallica themselves gave their tick of approval by sharing the video on their Facebook page. “How cool is this???,” the band rhetorically asked to their 36 million fans. “Show ’em how it’s done, Collier!”
The band wrap up their North American tour in a week’s time. Who knows who’ll be in the band by then.
