Flume’s Bizarrely Named Song Is Rapidly Becoming A Meme
"Still trying to figure out how to tell everyone to listen to this song when I still have no idea how to pronounce it."
Yesterday, with barely any warning, Flume dropped his new mixtape Hi This Is Flume.
The mixtape featured 38-minutes of new music from Harley Streten, the first since 2016, and included collaborations with SOPHIE, Eprom, and ‘Numb & Getting Colder’ singer Kučka. There are no discernible singles on the release — it’s a mixtape after all — but regardless, one particular track has become caught people’s eyes and ears, because of its truly bonkers name.
It’s titled ‘╜φ°⌂▌╫§╜φ°⌂▌╫§╜φ°⌂▌╫§╜φ°⌂▌╫§╜φ°⌂▌╫§╜φ°⌂▌╫§╜φ°⌂▌╫§╜φ°⌂▌╫§╜φ▌§╜φ°⌂▌╫§╜φ°⌂▌╫§╜φ°⌂▌╫§╜φ°⌂▌╫§╜φ°⌂▌╫§╜φ°⌂▌╫§╜φ’ — which from what we can tell, could be the sound of a microwave short-circuiting, R2D2 trying to sing Cyndi Lauper, or Flume just attempting to be a bit more like Bon Iver.
Whatever it is, no one has the faintest clue of what it means or how to pronounce it, which has rendered it perfectly memeable. The meme is still in the early stages, but we reckon it has the chance to turn into something truly beautiful.
