Introducing ‘Quarantine Cooking Show’, The Painfully Real ‘The Feed SBS’ Parody

It's best to never speak again of some improvised COVID-19 meals.

Over the past few weeks of social distancing, you’ve probably had to improvise when making a meal. Who hasn’t arrived home from an anxiety-inducing shop completely deflated because Woolies didn’t have the core ingredient of the Ottolenghi meal you were finally going to tackle?

Thankfully, our national broadcasters have us covered, with The Feed SBS introducing ‘Quarantine Cooking Show’, a less than aspirational watch that helps you put together dinner from the random shit you have in your home.

Host Alex C Lee and ‘chef’ Bobby Fontaine (aka Cam James) create a ‘Quarantine Cassarole’ from their scraps, including fruit loops, chicken stock, leftovers, and potpourri.

“Will it be delicious? Will it be disgusting? Time will tell,” says Fontaine, slightly less chipper than most TV chefs. “I’m panic-mixing”, he jokes, completely lost in the world.

Needless to say, it doesn’t go too well, and there’s a healthy spot of existential dread served on the side, too, as Fontaine reflects on his childhood.

Finally, some representation for all of us who aren’t out here pretending we’ll bake bread or work our way through those cookbooks our parents gave us when we first moved out.

Watch the sketch below, and catch The Feed SBS on TV each Tuesday at 10pm.
