June is Pride Month, and to celebrate Facebook has temporary added a new rainbow flag reaction button. To access it, you simply need to go to the LGBTQ@Facebook page and chuck them a like.

The reaction to the new reaction from the queer community has been mixed. Plenty of people have called on Facebook to make it a permanent addition that doesn’t require users to opt in. Others say the social network should be focusing on larger issues, such as making it easier for trans people to change their names on their profiles, and banning people who engage in homophobic abuse.

Still, regardless of what you think of the pride button, I think we can all agree that as long as we have it, we may as well use it to troll the shit out of Australian Conservatives Senator Cory Bernardi.

A former Liberal, Senator Bernardi is an outspoken opponent of marriage equality, having previously linked it to polygamy and bestiality. As of this week, he’s also the proud owner of the single most fabulous Facebook page of anyone in federal parliament.

Since the pride reaction became available, LGBTIQ Australians and their allies have flocked to Bernardi’s Facebook en masse, spamming every single post with tiny little rainbow flags. As of Sunday afternoon, his profile picture has been ‘prided’ more than 3,000 times.

People are also leaving pride-themed stickers and comments below his posts. It’s the best.

Bernardi Pride

Now obviously, we here at Junkee never like seeing our elected officials treated with anything other than the utmost respect. That being said, I’m just going to leave this link to Bernardi’s Facebook page right here, in case you want to go and say hi or something. No pressure. Totally up to you.

Happy Pride Month!
