As if you needed another reason to be excited about the prospect of more Jessica Jones, showrunner Melissa Rosenberg has revealed that all 13 episodes of the upcoming second season will be directed by women.

On TV And Trauma: ‘Jessica Jones’ Might Be The First Show To Treat Sexual Assault Right

Speaking at a conference at the University of Southern California’s Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism, Rosenberg said that she had previously planned to put an emphasis on hiring female directors, after nine out of 13 episodes in season one were directed by men. However, she said that she had recently been encouraged by an unnamed member of the production team to only hire women.

According to Variety, Rosenberg said that it was “very important” that showrunners make a “conscious decision” to employ an inclusive array of people behind the scenes. She also said that the decision was one that Marvel was completely on board with.

Of course it’s no secret that Marvel still has a long way to go on the gender equality front. In addition to focusing exclusively on male protagonists and/or male-led ensembles, every single Marvel movie thus far has been directed by a man. The same is also true of every episode of Luke Cage and every episode bar one of Daredevil.

It’s not surprising that Jessica Jones would be the property to finally buck that trend.

Jessica Jones season two will hit Netflix in 2018.
