Two old men who could potentially die if they were exposed to COVID-19, Eric Clapton and Van Morrison, have joined forces to release an anti-COVID-19-lockdown song called ‘Stand And Deliver’.

The track is performed by Clapton and was written by Morrison, who has been on anti-lockdown bullshit for a while now, having released three other ‘protest’ songs in recent months to promote the return of live music and entertainment. Clearly, the creative juices are flowing, and the lyrics to ‘Stand And Deliver’ prove that Morrison has a lot of feelings and also is aware of several legal terms.

“Magna Carta, Bill of Rights/The constitution, what’s it worth?/You know they’re gonna grind us down, ah,” sings Clapton. “Until it really hurts/Is this a sovereign nation/Or just a police state?/You better look out, people/Before it gets too late.”

The blues tirade also features some stunning lyrics comparing wearing a mask and remaining inside to not spread a deadly virus to being a slave.

“Do you wanna be a free man/Or do you wanna be a slave?,” croons Clapton. “Do you wanna wear these chains/Until you’re lying in the grave?”

The track ends with a reference to Dick Turpin, an 18th-century English criminal who wore a mask to hide his identity. “Dick Turpin wore a mask too” says Clapton, a link that makes less and less sense the more you consider it.

If you dare, you can listen to the track below. Proceeds go towards Morrison’s Lockdown Financial Hardship Fund, which preports to help musicians facing issues due to a lack of gigs: extremely ‘the worst person you know just made a great point’.
