Ellen Reckons All Those Claims Of Her Having A Toxic Workplace Were “Very Misogynistic”
Ellen also said she didn't know her workplace was toxic because celebs seemed to love the "happy atmosphere".
In case you missed the glorious news, yesterday Ellen DeGeneres announced that the Ellen show would end in 2022.
Despite the allegations of a toxic workplace that has surrounded the talkshow host since BuzzFeed News published their exposé in 2020, DeGeneres claims that she decided to end show because it was “just not a challenge any more“.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, DeGeneres explained that “when you’re a creative person, you constantly need to be challenged — and as great as this show is, and as fun as it is, it’s just not a challenge anymore”.
While DeGeneres shared that she had been thinking about ending The Ellen DeGeneres Show since 2018, she did note that all the drama surrounding her workplace conditions did “destroy” her and “almost impacted the show”.
it will NEVER not be funny to me that Ellen's public downfall started when she lied about not being invited to Dakota Johnson's party, when in reality she couldnt come because she was at a football game with her good friend George W Bush. https://t.co/nVJHddeaSD

But today DeGeneres has made some questionable statements in an interview with Today host Savannah Guthrie about the end of the show.
During her first interview since announcing her departure, Ellen DeGeneres shared that she felt the media coverage around the show’s alleged toxic conditions felt “orchestrated” and “coordinated”.
DeGeneres then added that she had no clue about a toxic work environment because she is a “person who likes to make people happy” and every guest who visited set loved the “happy atmosphere”.
“I really didn’t understand it. I still don’t understand it. It was too orchestrated. It was too coordinated. People get picked on, but for four months straight for me,” DeGeneres told Guthrie. “And then for me to read in the press about a toxic work environment, when all I’ve ever heard from every guest that comes on the show is what a happy atmosphere this is and what a happy place it is.”

Ellen DeGeneres also noted that it was difficult for her to be across what was going on when “there’s 255 employees… and there a lot of different buildings”.
“I don’t know how I could have know… unless I literally stay here until the last person goes home at night,” DeGeneres continued.
But instead of just seeing the situation for what it is, DeGeneres also claimed that misogyny could’ve also influenced the negative press coverage she received last year.
“I have to say if nobody else is saying it, it was really interesting because I’m a woman, and it did feel very misogynistic.”
