Eddie Murphy Is A Blaxploitation Legend In The Star-Studded Trailer For ‘Dolemite Is My Name’

It’s been a long, long time since I’ve been honestly able to say I was excited for an Eddie Murphy movie. Sorry, but Norbit just wasn’t my cup of tea. But on Tuesday Netflix dropped the star-studded first trailer for Dolemite Is My Name, starring Eddie Murphy as comedian and blaxploitation legend Rudy Ray Moore alongside Wesley Snipes, Craig Robinson, Keegan-Michael Key, Tituss Burgess and Snoop Dogg. And it looks legitimately fantastic.
Directed by Hustle & Flow‘s Craig Brewer, the film tells the story of Moore, whose kung-fu-fighting pimp alter-ego Dolemite began his life as part of Moore’s stand-up career before making the jump to motion pictures. “Dolemite is my name,” declares Murphy, echoing the character’s famous catchphrase. “And fucking up motherfuckers is my game.”
Yes, please.
Dolemite Is My Name will have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival next month, before releasing on Netflix later in 2019.
