Drake has revealed that he and 1.2 million fans were duped by a 16-year-old who asked the rapper to perform at his wedding as a surprise for his fiancé.

Last week, an Instagram account @drake_wedding posted a screenshot of a DM conversation in which they asked Drake how many likes/follows the account would need for him to make a surprise appearance at his wedding. Drake, in the post, responds by saying, “First off, congrats on getting married! And 1 million likes and 100,000 follows. Good luck.”

As of writing, the post has 1.3 million likes and the account has 251,000+ followers. How’d they get there? Well, the story got picked up by the hypebeasts at Complex, which would’ve helped (and, uh, they’ve since updated it). To prove it was real, the account shared a screengrab video on its permanent stories.

Not too long after, Drake shared his own screenshot in which the account DMs him to say, “Sorry it blew up like this, I’m a 16-year-old from San Antonio and never meant for it to be like this. Huge fan of you.” They also clarified that Drake could have the account if he wanted, as they didn’t know what to do with it.

Drake’s reaction? “Instagram is a disturbing place,” he wrote on Instagram earlier today, adding a couple of cry-laugh emojis.

And while the screenshot doesn’t include the account’s original messages, it seems like they were sent from the teen’s personal account, as per the screengrab. That account, @couldbejoshua (a reference to XXXTentacion), is private, and has updated their username to “canNOT reply”, so we might not be hearing from them any time soon.

Their final message for now was updating the @drake_wedding account with the caption, “Don’t say L. This is the biggest W of my life” — which seems suitably dramatic and Drake-y.

Drake recently released Care Package, a compilation album of previously lost or difficult-to-find tracks. In local catfishing news, Channel 10 has cancelled its previously announced Catfish Australia, which was to be hosted by Casey Donovan, due to a lack of suitable people.
