Deadpool Isn’t Happy About Australia’s M Rating For The Family-Friendly ‘Once Upon A Deadpool’
This month, a family-friendly re-cut of Deadpool 2 is coming to cinemas, with new scenes adding a nostalgic Princess Bride framing device. However, in defiance of the entire point of the re-edited film, Once Upon A Deadpool has been rated M in Australia. Deadpool has something to say about that.
In a 40-second promotional short released today, Ryan Reynold’s Deadpool and Fred Savage’s Middle-Aged-Man-Strapped-To-A-Bed-Against-His-Will share a rapid-fire exchange on Deadpool’s living arrangements, his love life, and Once Upon A Deadpool‘s rating in Australia.
Last month, the Australian Classification Board granted Once Upon A Deadpool an M rating. As in, recommended for mature viewers aged 15 years and over. Though this is a step down from the restricted MA15+ rating achieved by Deadpool 2, the re-cut film apparently still contains enough “mature themes, action violence, sexual references and coarse language” to keep it from that bright yellow Australian PG.
“What happened in Australia?” asks the involuntarily bedridden Savage in the video, entitled “Savage Questions”.
“Hugh Jackman,” replies the Merc with a Mouth. “He refuses to participate in his own success. You wanna hang up the claws, hang up the claws. You can lead a wallaby to water but you can’t make him drink.”
“With the rating.”
“Oh! Yeah, it’s an M! I don’t know what those people are smoking.”
Australians under 15 can still see the film in cinemas without adult supervision, but that rating might make some parents feel a bit leery about letting them.
Once Upon A Deadpool arrives in cinemas December 13.
